I disagree with Jessica because I think Nimmo needs to be on this team unless you get a significant upgrade at either SP or 3B, not a #4 starter. But as to the Dom/Pete question I'm surprised no one has ever brought up the Orlando Cepeda/Willie McCovey dilemma of the 1960s. The Giants traded Cepeda for Ray Sadecki, a 26 year old pitcher, a season removed from a 20 win season. Sadecki was a decent starting pitcher who pitched Ok for the Mets from 1970 to 1974. Cepeda continued his HOF career with great years for the Cards and Braves.
Like I said to Jessica I think the Mets were kind of delayed because of the sale of the team and turnover of ownership. I really think this team will be super active as we get closer to the trade deadline but I don't think it would it is a reach to think Nimmo could net you a big haul. We know his OBP strengths but he is a very good LF option as well for any team. I know Nimmo has struggled in CF but I am hoping a year of work and knowing that is his position could help him improve.
You have to sign Jackie Bradley Jr. to a 2 or 3 year deal put Nimmo in left and platoon Alonso and Smith at first base if there is no DH. Even though I personally don't like the DH but as a Mets fan the DH greatly improves the team's offense and defense because then you have Smith playing first and Alonso as the DH.
I think a lot of us are in that boat, Charles. Glad you brought it up. I personally do not love the DH in the NL, but it is tough to advocate against it when this Mets team improves with the DH.
I think if we had the Cohen regime for the entire offseason we would have done a lot of things differently. I am trying to be as patient as possible with this year because the organization had a late start due to the sale of the team. Maybe if Sandy and Zack had more time together all of these rumors of trades and signings go differently.
Why do people think JBJ is this big upgrade over Nimmo? Yes he can catch it better. But his offense is absymal. Bradley has 18 WAR in three times as many AB as Nimmo who has 8 WAR and WAR includes defense. Last year their WAR was nearly identical and Bradley wants much more money than Nimmo on a Multi Year deal. I;m with Christopher. Nimmo is coming into his own. Bradley may already be on the back side -- 3 years older.
If Nimmo could learn CF then I would be fine with him there but he really has struggled to field the position. JBJ is an upgrade defensively and I subscribe to the idea that defense (and pitching) wins you championships.
I agree in the infield. Not necessarily in the outfield. The Dodgers, Astros, Nationals and Cubs were okay in Center Field defensively the last 4 years but all had superior pitching, superior shortstops and terrific lineups. We have a superior shortstop, a terrific lineup and might have superior pitching (if the bullpen is as improved as it can be.

Personally I’d prefer option 4: Sign JBJ, trade Nimmo as part of a package to get a starting pitcher and a 3rd base upgrade.
