Really great analysis Tim. He really is the lynchpin for us. Have you done any analysis on Smith? I was just looking at his splits and he is hitting LHP well this year and about the same as last year. The main difference seems to be his drop off against RHP. He had a 1.023 OPS agains them last year vs .664 this year. Its so odd seeing the best players of our shortened season struggle badly. They were both putting together seasons that would extrapolate to 6WAR if they did it across a full season in 2020. This year Conforto with a 0.3WAR and Smith with a .6WAR are causing the offensive brownouts. I cheer for the homegrown guys more than anyone else so I hope they can finish stronger.
Going to be a really interesting off season for Mike. We had enough reason to be concerned with Boras as his agent before, now who knows what that relationship with our FO is.
I still believe he'll bust out of it in some way, but while this offense is struggling we need it now more than ever. Hopefully when it does, it's big and at the best possible time.
