If the Mets would consider Franco to replace Martinez as a RH bat who provides no real defensive value, why not Edwin Encarnacion as a straight pinch hitter?
I think they were just kicking the tires on Franco, and the fact that he could potentially play third has value.
With Encarnacion, as much as I'd love his bat, I doubt he'd accept that role. Better chance at him seeing playing time on an AL team.
