Taking a Breather...
With the Mets in offseason mode for a few weeks by now, I'm finding a lot more to do with my time

Devoting essentially every day from April through early October to the Mets is great and all, until it’s not there anymore. Now that the Mets have been eliminated for three weeks, I’ve found a variety of ways to fill my newfound free time.
Watching more football. Going to football games. Watching some basketball. Exploring the city more frequently. Catching up with friends, new and old. And life has gone on without the Mets.
While I certainly do miss seeing this ballclub win, what I know I’ll miss most over the coming months is the community I found through the times. Whether that was at Citi Field, on Twitter, or passing random strangers in Manhattan also wearing Mets gear, the Mets brought a sense of community to me in 2022, unlike something I had ever felt before.
It was a feeling that went way beyond “just baseball”.
Nonetheless, I’ve made the most of my time since the Mets were shut out by San Diego. And maybe an offseason-long will be much needed. After all, I can almost assure you that I, along with many other Met fans, will enter April with a heightened sense of confidence that 2023 may finally be the year another championship is brought to Queens.
The time away from baseball also creates enough distance from the abrupt and disappointing ending that was October 9.
Sometimes, finding content to write about in the offseason can be a struggle. Especially now, when the hot stove has yet to heat up and Met rivals *the Phillies* take center stage in the World Series, there is very little substance to write about.
Ultimately, my message with this write-up is this: Enjoy the offseason. Make the most of this time. Because if you’re anything like me, the Mets will take up so much of our time from next April through October. As fun as that time is, it’s an absolute marathon.
Opening Day is in less than 150 days. But I’m definitely not counting down yet. I love this team, but I love this time away as well.
