No one man will enter the hallowed caverns of baseball history after the Mets combined no-hitter against the Phillies on Friday at Citi Field. It was a group effort. Not the first time it’s happened, and it won’t be the last.
To borrow an uncannily perfect cliche: it is what it is.
There was no reason for Tylor Megill to go 150 pitches to secure a win in April, even with baseball immortality within arm’s reach. The cards fell where they did as Buck Showalter shuffled through his arm barn and history — yes, even in its combined form — was made.
Nothing changes the fact that by the time all was said and done, goose eggs littered the Citi Field scoreboard like it was Easter morning.
And if New York needing five guys to get it done did water down the no-hitter by historical standards, it surely didn’t degrade the excitement of the feat; at least not from a fan’s perspective. We’ll take that.
It feels like there’s been quite a bit of special hovering around this group. Friday night’s journey was just another tip of that particular cap. Curious to see how this story evolves. On we go.

Oh Hallelujah!! That "hovering" you speak about Timothy......is GRACE. And "5" means Grace! Yeah, Divine GRACE is hovering over our Blessed Metsies!! This is TRULY our Special Year!! Love the Great read! Love the way you pen with Grace. 🥰👏👏👏🙏🏼
What a strange experience to witness. Not nearly the tension of one pitcher going all the way but maybe that was the magic - I totally expected a reliever to give up at LEAST one hit. Bizarre and wonderful.!
